Ormond Beach Water Fluoridation Update
Our City Commission voted unanimously to end water fluoridation in Ormond Beach.
According to the City of Ormond Facebook post;
At last night’s City Commission meeting, the Ormond Beach City Commission voted to stop adding fluoride to our city's water supply. This decision follows updated guidance from Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph A. Ladapo.
According to the guidance, why don’t we need fluoride in our water?
🔹 Modern alternatives: Fluoride is now readily available in toothpaste, mouth rinses, and dental treatments, reducing the need for water fluoridation.
🔹 Dietary overexposure: Many processed foods and drinks already contain fluoride, increasing the risk of overconsumption.
This change ensures Ormond Beach residents still receive clean, safe, and high-quality water while allowing individuals to make their own choices about fluoride use. The City of Ormond Beach staff has already taken the necessary steps to stop fluoridation.

According to a 2022 study included in the National Library of Medicine, too much fluoride can be a bad thing long-term.
“Excess amounts of fluoride ions in drinking water can cause dental fluorosis, skeletal fluorosis, arthritis, bone damage, osteoporosis, muscular damage, fatigue, joint-related problems, and chronicle issues,” the study says (Daytona Beach News Journal article December 2024)
